2023 Coronation £10 Tenth Ounce Gold Coin

The 2023 tenth ounce gold Coronation coin is a specially designed coin from The Royal Mint to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

The coin features the crowned portrait of King Charles III on the obverse side, designed by British sculptor Martin Jennings and personally approved by the monarch. The reverse side of the coin, designed by John Bergdahl, bears the royal cypher of King Charles III surrounded by a laurel wreath and the text 'THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLEES III 6 MAY 2023'. This text, along with the weight and purity of the coin is also repeated in micro-engraved letters around the rim.

The Royal cypher is the personal symbol of King Charles III, it features the initials 'C' intertwined with the letter 'R' for Rex (king) and the number III in the centre. Above it is the Tudor crown, the ancient symbol of the British monarchy which was destroyed in 1649 but lives on in the heraldry of the Royal family.

Like the tenth ounce Britannia these coins have a face value of £10 making them British Legal Tender and therefore exempt from Capital Gains Tax. With a limited mintage period they are sure to be a very popular collectible coin and will not be around for long.
