A tenth ounce American Eagle gold coin from 2021 featuring the new Type II design, the first refresh for the series since 1986.
The obverse design features Lady Liberty with flowing hair holding a torch and olive branch. It was originally produced by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the US Mint’s limited edition Double Eagle coins in the early 1900s.
The new Type II design is by artist Jennie Norris and was sculpted by the US Mint's Renata Gordon. It features a close-up focus on the national bird in stunning detail, and features the normal inscriptions surrounding it. The new design promises to freshen up the long-standing series, as well as allowing the US Mint to update it's anti-counterfeiting measures.
The 2021 Type II 1/10 oz gold Eagle coin is struck in 22 carat gold (916.7) and contains 3.11 grams of pure gold. They are official legal tender in the United States of America, with a value of $5. By law, the gold must be sourced from American mines.
