Product Reviews

Always an issue buying unseen coins off dealers but to date I’ve never been let down by BbyP. I had been looking for this coin for to complete a set for a while and was amazed to find ByP had got one in as they seem to be like hen’s teeth. As I say it was bought unseen and once again BbyP did not disappoint. This coin is immaculate! I know BbyP may not be the cheapest but they are definitely a firm you can trust to deliver top quality products and one I would use again without hesitation.

The Queen's Beasts are ten statues which stood guard for the Queen's Coronation, sculpted by James Woodford RA in 1953. The Queen's Beasts are still standing, but are currently housed at the Canadian Museum of History in Quebec, Canada. Stone replicas of the statues can be found at Kew gardens.

The White Lion of Mortimer is another beast inherited by the Queen from Edward IV of the House of York and it was a favoured symbol of King George VI - Queen Elizabeth II's father - prior to his coronation.

The Mortimer lion has no crown and has a blue tongue. This lion also sits, rather than rearing up, and holds a Yorkist shield bearing a ‘white rose en soleil’ (golden sun) on a half and half background.

The quarter ounce £25 White Lion of Mortimer coin will be exempt of any Capital Gains Tax when you are ready to sell.

A note to collectors - the Queens Beast series of coins will be issued one-by-one by the Royal Mint up until 2020. If you intend to collect this range, we will not have access to these earlier coins in 2020 as they are limited edition, so you will need to purchase them individually as they become available (roughly every six months).
