Each coin features the iconic figure of lady Britannia driving a sea chariot pulled by horses, a powerful symbol of her role as protector of Britain's shores. The 2023 Proof Britannia range is also the first in the series to feature King Charles III on the obverse.
Jonathan Olliffe's design is a contemporary interpretation of the historic medals that depict Britannia driving a sea chariot, with a unique twist that combines aquatic and serpent-inspired features on the traditional horses. This stunning design pays homage to Philip Nathan's iconic 1997 design for the Britannia coin, while also incorporating elements of Olliffe's own artistic style.
The six coins contained in the set are an ounce, half ounce, quarter ounce, tenth ounce, twentieth ounce and fortieth ounce, with the latter two and one ounce being exclusive to this set. Each coin is struck in fine 999.9 gold. They are presented in a beautiful box and come with a booklet that explores the story of Britannia and the inspiration behind Jonathan Olliffe's design.
