The 2023 United Kingdom Gold Proof Commemorative Coin Set Boxed

The set features five of the most significant coin issues from the forthcoming year celebrating key icons and anniversaries in British cultural history. Each coin is struck to proof standard in 22 carat gold, they are presented together in a beautiful Royal Mint case along with a booklet that explores the themes of each coin. The coins are:

The 75th Birthday of His Majesty King Charles III
King Charles III will celebrate his 75^th birthday on the 14^th of November 2023 and to mark this event in the life of the new king The Royal Mint’s Dan Thorne designed this £5 gold coin with an work personally approved by His Majesty. The edge of the coin in inscribed with the text ‘RESTORING HARMONY WITH NATURE’. The coin is minted in a combination of 22 carat yellow gold in the centre and 22 carat rose gold around the outside.

Celebrating the Life and Work of JRR Tolkien

This £2 gold coin celebrates the life of J.R.R. Tolkien, a giant of English literature and the father of fantasy fiction writing who died 50 years ago this year. It features his self-designed monogram surrounded by a runic band and his year of birth and death. The text ‘NOT ALL THOSE WHO WANDER ARE LOST’ taken from a poem ‘The Riddle of Strider’ is inscribed on the coin’s edge. The coin is minted in a combination of 22 carat yellow gold in the centre and 22 carat rose gold around the outside.

The world’s most famous train and symbol of the age of steam celebrates 100 years of operation in 2023. This £2 silver coin is beautifully designed by John Bergdahl and features the edge inscription ‘LIVE FOR THE JOURNEY’.

75 Years of the Windrush Generation
HMT Empire Windrush sailing from Jamaica docked at Tilbury in Essex 21 June 1948 and started a process which would transform Britain into the modern multicultural society it is today. To celebrate the generations which moved to the UK this 50 pence gold coin features a design by the artist Valda Jackson showing two of the ship’s passengers against a backdrop of the Union flag.
