A one ounce American Eagle gold coin from 2021.
The obverse design of the Eagle gold coin features Lady Liberty with flowing hair holding a torch and olive branch. It was originally produced by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the US Mint’s limited edition Double Eagle coins in the early 1900s.
2021 is an important year for collectors of American Eagle gold coins as it is expected to be the last year that the classic design is used on the reverse of the coin. This design featuring a male eagle returning to a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings has been a feature of the eagle gold coin since its introduction in 1986. However to mark the 35th anniversary of the coin's launch the US mint will be updating their classic design in mid-2021. Beneath the nest are the initials M B (Miley Busiek) and J W (Sherl Joseph Winter).
The 1oz gold Eagle coin is struck in 22 carat gold (.9167) and contains 31.10 grams of pure gold, it is official legal tender in the United States of America, with a value of $50.
