The 2007 sovereign was produced in both proof and bullion versions - only 8,199 proof coins were produced however. This coin features the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. This proof has been struck using specially selected blanks and highly polished dies. During striking, the coinage dies exert enormous pressure on the coin blank, with at least two separate blows (or strikes), ensuring that the impression has extra clarity. No box or certificate is provided with this.
