1909 Gold Sovereign Coin Edward VII Melbourne

This effigy of King Edward VII shows his profile facing right, without a crown. It is the first official portrait of Edward VII to be used on coins minted by the Royal Mint. The sculptor's initials, ‘De S’, are visible at the bottom of the head.

The reverse of the 1909 Gold Sovereign features the traditional design of Saint George and the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci, as well as the sculptor's initials B.P. and the year of issue.
