The 500 Dalasis coin was minted to .900 fineness and weighs 33.437 grams. It features the head of Sir Dawda Jawara, the first president of The Gambia, on the obverse and a Sitatunga, a type of antelope native to central Africa, on the reverse. Text reads REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA - 1977 and 500 DALASIS.
