A Tanzanian 1500 Shilingi or Shilling gold coin. This coin was issued in 1974 only. Just over 2,500 bullion coins were minted and fewer than 1000 proof editions issued.
The 1500 Shilingi coin was minted to .900 fineness and weighs 33.437 grams. It features the head of Julius Nyerere, the first president of the state of Tanzania, on the obverse and a cheetah on the reverse. Text reads TANZANIA 1974 RAIS WA KWANZA and SHILINGI ELFU MOJA NA MIA TANO
This coin was produced by the Royal Mint in conjunction with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCNNR). The coin collection was released between 1974 and 1975.
